Where we’ll be:
Kilranelagh is a privately owned hill near Baltinglass in the foothills of the beautiful West Wicklow mountains. This area contains the greatest concentration of prehistoric hillforts in Europe and Kilranelagh has many ancient sites. We have obtained exclusive permission to run tours on the hill. The ancient historical sites are hard to find, tucked away in the beautiful forests on the hill. We will guide you to these hidden treasures.

What guests should bring:
Suitable warm waterproof clothing and footwear for walking outdoors should be worn.
A snack and something to drink.

Meeting location: Kilranelagh graveyard for the Full tour and Brigid’s Tour; or Colvinstown Upper, Castle Court for the Rings tour.

Directions: Kilranelagh is a 10 minute drive from Baltinglass, Co Wicklow. The meeting point at Kilranelagh Graveyard can be found on Google maps.

For the Colvinstown entrance, follow the directions on Google maps to Kilranelagh Graveyard but keep going straight past the sign to the graveyard which you will see on your right. Follow the narrow road which will incline steadily with a few gentle twists. Just before the road starts to slope steeply downwards you will see a forest entry barrier gate. Across the road from the barrier there is space for parking for a few cars. Please do not obstruct the barrier gate when parking.

Please note: There is no public transport directly to the graveyard. The closest public transport is by bus to Baltinglass. A pick up from Baltinglass can be arranged for up to 4 people, please contact us directly to arrange.

Minimum age: 12 – Minors may only attend with their legal guardian.

Activity level: Moderate

Guest requirements:

Although the hill is not large, a suitable level of physical fitness for hillwalking for around three and a half hours is required. Some of the tour is on uneven and slippery ground so care should be taken.  Some small stone walls will need to be scaled, so comfortable appropriate footwear is necessary.

All tour participants must remain in the presence of the guide and follow the direction of the guide for the duration of the tour.

Please be advised that the hill is on private property and we will be walking through a working farm and forest.
